Learn English

To learn English is essential for most business people. What French is for diplomacy is English for business. International corporations in most cases have elected English as their language for worldwide communications.

Also, these days, if you speak English, you are very likely to find somebody in most parts of the world, who also speaks at least a few words of English. Tourists who speak English often manage to get by in countries where other languages are spoken.

It makes a lot of sense to learn to speak English if you move further than the few miles around your home town. Now the question many aske themselves, is how to learn English. Because up to not so long ago, learning a new language meant to go through a lot of pains and hardship, learning by rote. And then, once one knew how to use the English grammar and had a few hundred English words all ready from studing English vovabulary,  it was still VERY difficult to put it all to use and construct useful sentences.... Not to speak about the pronunciation...

To learn how to speak English, and to learn how to understand English was not a priority in the old teaching methods.

Today this is all quite different. People learn English online, by simply openign up English web pages. If you enter the search term 'learn English' you find over 100 Million (!) entries in Google alone. That puts you in front of an other problem: What is the best way to learn English?

In my personal oppinion, it's to go and live in a country where the English language is spoken. Preferably Egnland, as this it the place where the cleanest, most respected English is spoken. It's sometimes refered as the 'Queen's English'.

If you can't quit your job and family, or if you have no money to spend on such a language learning foray, then you might want to consider the next, also very good, even excellent method to learn English: English audio lessons!

A man called Paul Pimsleur, linguist and scientist interested in the mechanisms that lead to language aquisition, has perfected the 'Pimsleur method'. He found that we keep the capacity we used when we learned our first language when we were a child. And that this very mechanisme that allowed us to make sense out of 'noise' (= the language spoken by parents and people aorund the baby) that lead to us speaking our first language, can also be activated later in life.

Thus he started to prepare special audios whith a new language and tested them on students wanting to learn a second language. Over a period of nearly 40 years he kept on perfecting the system and nowadays, the Pimsleur method is widely recognized as the most efficient method to learn to speak a foreign language and to be able to pronounce English words (in this case) properly.

What students especially appreciate about this method is that there is no need to first learn English grammar. Or to first cram a few hundred English words and English vocabulary into your head.  These are activites to learn English that should now be banned, or at least banished from beginners language lessons!

To learn English language you only need to listen to these language audio lessons of 30 minutes each repeatedly. It's nearly like games to learn English, because you are listening and participating in a small role play in which you get told all you need to know about the English language to get by easily. If you want to learn advanced English, and further develop your English language skills, you can then go on and get yourself the next level English audios.
